About

My name is Joseph Kelly, and I am a PhD student studying the theology and ethics of the Hebrew Bible. I belong to the ecclesial tradition of Churches of Christ. I am married, and my wife and I enjoy food and cycling. We are interested in every aspect of food culture from growth, to preparation, to consumption. We are, however, concerned about the dominate food culture in the industrialized world, how it affects our health and how it impacts the two-thirds world and our environment. More broadly, we consider ourselves environmentalists, which is one reason why we cycle. We intentionally became a one-car family so that we would rely more on our bicycles for local transportation. Not only is it healthier for the environment (another major concern that shapes our lives), it is physically healthier. My wife rides road and I prefer mountain bike trails. My wife has degrees in education and ESL; she currently teaches high school Spanish. She prefers a book to television, and reads broadly about social issues, traveling, and food. I read mostly academic biblical literature, work at the library of the school I attend, and sometimes go foraging for wild mushrooms. Feel free to leave comments on my blog, or contact me by email: josephdotrdotkellyatgmaildotcom.

Thanks for the link to your blog. You’ll be added to our Student Biblioblogger list. How have we missed this blog?

I am relatively new still to the biblioblogosphere. What I don’t get is why neither of us link to our own blogs when we comment on each others blogs. Hmm?

Nice blog! We share an interest in Genesis 1. I read Smith’s book, including the endnotes. And I have a chapter coming out on The Cosmology of the Bible.

You’ve probably seen Eisenbraun’s mugs with the first lines of Enuma Elish printed on the side?
